CASSANDRA BIRD was delighted to participate in the landmark 10th edition of Sydney Contemporary, held at Carriageworks in Redfern.
At Booth B13, the gallery presented an ambitious installation of new works by Grace Lillian Lee, Danie Mellor, George Cooley and Marcus Camphoo, four distinctive contemporary Australian artists whose practices offer powerful and deeply personal perspectives on landscape, culture and Country.
Bringing together painting, sculpture and mixed media, the presentation explored the enduring relationships between people, place, memory and ancestral knowledge. Through a vibrant interplay of colour, texture, storytelling and sculptural form, the artists approached Country not simply as landscape, but as a living presence, a site of cultural continuity, identity, transformation and belonging.
Each artist brought a singular visual language to the presentation, creating a compelling dialogue between material experimentation and cultural storytelling. Together, the works celebrated the strength, diversity and vitality of contemporary First Nations art, while revealing the many ways Country can be remembered, embodied and reimagined.
