Congratulations to Mel O’Callaghan who's work, 'Mineral Painting (Crystals, fabrics and fields)', 2025, has been selected as a finalist in Fishers Ghost Art Award.
Now in its 64th year, the annual award and exhibition celebrates artists working across a diverse range of mediums. The prestigious Open Award is valued at $50,000, with the winning work acquired for the Campbelltown City Council Art Collection.
'Mineral Painting (Crystals, Fabrics and Fields)' was first presented in O’Callaghan’s exhibition Force of the Invisible at CASSANDRA BIRD.
O’Callaghan is one of Australia’s most highly regarded contemporary artists. Acclaimed for a practice that is both intellectually rigorous and deeply reflective, her work spans film, performance and large-scale installation.
In 2026, she presented two major projects: a solo project at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris and her most ambitious performance to date, Live Echo, commissioned by the Sydney Opera House. The performance brought together 300 singers from the @sydney.philharmonia on the monumental steps of the Opera House, transforming the architecture into a resonant instrument and uniting human and architectural breath in a single vibration.
