Experience THUNDERHEAD, an immersive audiovisual performance by artist and musician Tina Havelock Stevens (drums) and long-time collaborator Liberty (guitar) at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Responding in real time to epic footage of a supercell storm filmed on US Route 54 in Texas, the pair’s live score channels nature at its most beautiful and volatile. As Havelock Stevens reflects: ‘Sometimes you look out the car window and think – how am I seeing this? A perfect storm. An epic moment in time and space.’

Moody and intense, this performance builds across two hours of continuous improvisation, surging alongside looping storm imagery.

Tina Havelock Stevens and Liberty have been collaborating since first meeting in the Sydney post-punk scene in the late 1980s. Now working as an improvisational duo, they most recently supported Kim Gordon at the Art Gallery’s Volume 2024 and last performed on a tennis court in Bathurst in 2025 with Racquet racket duel dual.
