CASSANDRA BIRD is thrilled to announce Juanita McLauchlan as the winner of the 2025 MA Art Prize, an acquisitive award recognising outstanding new work by an emerging or early career artist at Australasia’s premier art event, Sydney Contemporary.
McLauchlan’s striking work, Mandaymanday / String of Stars (2025), combines woollen blanket, brushtail possum, coins, and cotton thread in a deeply considered textile assemblage. The piece reflects her ongoing engagement with material memory, place, and cultural continuity.
As the recipient of the $15,000 acquisitive prize, McLauchlan joins a growing cohort of exciting new voices in Australian contemporary art. Her awarded work will be on view at Sydney Contemporary 2025 in our gallery at Booth G10.
