We’re thrilled to share that Janet Laurence is one of the featured artists in A Scientific Encounter: The Complex — a major group exhibition at the historic Palazzo Poggi Museum in Bologna.
Bringing together contemporary artists with rare scientific artefacts, the exhibition explores the “Complex,” a concept developed by 17th-century polymath Luigi Ferdinando Marsili to describe a collaborative, cross-disciplinary approach to knowledge.
Through works that enter into dialogue with collections spanning anatomy, optics, geography, and natural history, the show reimagines how art and science shape and inform each other.
Laurence’s contribution engages with the material histories and sensorial qualities of scientific objects—inviting us to question how we interpret, preserve, and emotionally respond to knowledge over time.
Exhibition dates: 13 June – 31 December 2025
