Remy Faint

Remy Faint is an emerging artist based on Gadigal Land (Sydney), working across painting, sculpture, ceramics, and installation. His practice is driven by a desire to expand the languages of painterly abstraction through an examination of its global histories. Drawing on his Chinese heritage, Faint often references collection-based objects and materials to navigate cross-cultural and material frameworks. His work explores themes of exchange, visibility, and hybridised artistic production.

A recurring motif in his installations is the folding screen—an object that dates back to the Han dynasty in ancient China. Faint reinterprets its traditional function as a divider or spatial tool, using it to explore ideas of structure, transition, and cultural translation. These conceptual inquiries are grounded in the physical processes of assembling, repurposing, and layering diverse materials within his studio practice.

Since graduating with First Class Honours from UNSW Art & Design in 2021, Faint has exhibited widely across Australia and internationally, with shows at Cement Fondu, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Gosford Regional Gallery, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, and more. He was a finalist in the 2024 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging), the 2023 Mosman Art Prize, and winner of the 2023 Gosford Art Prize. In 2022, he received the inaugural Schenberg Art High Commendation Award as part of PICA’s Hatched National Graduate Exhibition.

Faint recently held his first solo exhibition at Cement Fondu and continues to expand his practice through residencies and academic engagement. He is currently a studio resident at the City of Sydney Creative Studios and a Casual Academic at UNSW Art & Design.
