CASSANDRA BIRD is proud to present a compelling booth at Sydney Contemporary 2025, showcasing the work of four exceptional Australian women artists whose practices explore materiality, memory, and our relationship with the environment. The presentation features internationally acclaimed New York-based artist Jessica Rankin, Paris-based conceptual artist Mel O'Callaghan, emerging Gamilaraay artist Juanita McLauchlan, and leading Australian artist Janet Laurence.
Through distinct yet interconnected practices, the artists reflect on personal, celestial and ancestral narratives. Rankin's intricate embroidered works chart constellations intertwined with fragments of poetry and memory. O'Callaghan debuts new paintings made from crushed minerals and organic pigments, evoking shared cosmological origins. McLauchlan, currently exhibiting at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, presents sculptural wall necklaces honouring Indigenous knowledge, storytelling, and ceremony. Laurence contributes immersive, alchemical works that explore ecological fragility and speculative environmental futures.Together, these artists offer a resonant and timely vision of abstraction, grounded in cultural heritage, material transformation, and ecological consciousness.
